Best Paris Hotels for First-Time Visitors
Your first trip to Paris can feel a little overwhelming.
There are beautiful hotels in almost every arrondissement, and choosing the right neighborhood can have a big impact on how easy it feels to explore the city.
For a first visit, I usually recommend staying somewhere central, walkable, and well connected to public transportation. You want to be close enough to Paris's major sights without feeling like you are spending the entire day getting from one place to another.
These are five hotels I would consider for a first trip to Paris.
Hôtel La Tamise
For a first-time visitor who wants an intimate Parisian hotel in an exceptionally central location, Hôtel La Tamise is a lovely choice.
Located opposite the Tuileries Garden in the 1st arrondissement, the hotel is within walking distance of the Louvre, Palais-Royal, Place Vendôme, and Rue Saint-Honoré.
The hotel itself is small, with just 19 rooms, and occupies a 19th-century hôtel particulier with original architectural details including stained glass, parquet flooring, and decorative tilework.
For a first trip, I particularly like the location because it puts so much of central Paris within easy reach.
Why I recommend it: A quiet, intimate hotel with an excellent location for exploring central Paris on foot.
Hôtel Ducs de Bourgogne
If you want to experience the historic heart of Paris, Hôtel Ducs de Bourgogne is worth considering.
Located on Rue du Pont Neuf in the 1st arrondissement, the hotel is close to the Louvre, Notre-Dame, Île de la Cité, La Samaritaine, and the Seine.
The four-star boutique hotel has 37 rooms, creating a smaller and more personal atmosphere. Its location also makes it easy to explore the city on foot while remaining close to major transportation connections.
For a first-time visitor, this is the kind of location that can make it easier to experience several different sides of Paris without constantly relying on transportation.
Why I recommend it: A boutique atmosphere in the heart of historic Paris, with many major sights nearby.
Novotel Paris Les Halles
For travelers who prioritize convenience, Novotel Paris Les Halles is one of the most practical choices on this list.
The hotel is in the 1st arrondissement, with the Louvre approximately a 10-minute walk away, the Tuileries around 15 minutes on foot, and Notre-Dame around 15 minutes away. It is also exceptionally well connected through Châtelet-Les Halles.
The hotel has 285 rooms and suites, including larger room configurations for families and groups.
For a first visit, the transportation access is especially useful. You can easily reach different parts of Paris without needing to stay directly beside every attraction you want to see.
Why I recommend it: An extremely central location with excellent transportation connections and a wide range of room options.
Hôtel Dame des Arts
For first-time visitors who want a more contemporary Paris experience, Hôtel Dame des Arts offers a beautiful base on the Left Bank.
Located in the Latin Quarter, the hotel is close to the Seine and within easy reach of Notre-Dame, Luxembourg Gardens, and Saint-Germain-des-Prés.
The hotel also has one feature that makes it especially memorable for a first Paris trip: its rooftop.
The ninth-floor rooftop offers panoramic views across Paris, including the Eiffel Tower, Notre-Dame, the Panthéon, and Montmartre.
After a full day of sightseeing, being able to return to the hotel and see the city from above is a wonderful way to experience Paris.
Why I recommend it: A stylish Left Bank location with a rooftop offering some of the city's most beautiful views.
Hôtel Édouard 7
For first-time visitors who want to combine sightseeing with shopping, culture, and classic Parisian atmosphere, Hôtel Édouard 7 is a strong option.
Located on Avenue de l'Opéra in the 2nd arrondissement, the hotel is directly opposite the Opéra Garnier and close to the department stores and Place Vendôme.
The hotel has 69 rooms, including suites, and several room categories offer views of the Opéra Garnier.
Its central location also makes it convenient for exploring the Louvre, Tuileries, Palais-Royal, covered passages, and the surrounding Opéra neighborhood.
Why I recommend it: A polished central location that works particularly well for travelers who want culture, shopping, and major sights close by.
What Should First-Time Visitors Look for in a Paris Hotel?
Choosing a Paris hotel for your first trip is less about finding the most impressive property and more about finding the right location and experience.
There are a few things I always consider.
A Central Location
For a first trip, I like being close to several major sights rather than choosing a hotel based on one attraction alone.
A central location gives you more flexibility and makes it easier to return to the hotel during the day if you need a break.
Easy Transportation
Paris is wonderfully walkable, but you will probably use the Metro at some point.
I look for hotels with convenient access to Metro or RER stations so you can easily reach neighborhoods that are farther away.
Walkability
Some of the best Paris experiences happen between the major attractions.
A hotel in a walkable neighborhood gives you the opportunity to discover cafés, bakeries, gardens, shops, and beautiful streets along the way.
The Right Neighborhood
The Eiffel Tower may be on your must-see list, but that doesn't necessarily mean you need to stay beside it.
For a first trip, I often prefer a location that gives you access to several different areas of Paris rather than one that revolves around a single landmark.
Where Should You Stay in Paris for the First Time?
There isn't one neighborhood that works for every first-time visitor.
The 1st arrondissement is an excellent choice if you want to be close to the Louvre, Tuileries, Palais-Royal, and central Paris.
The Latin Quarter works well for travelers who want a lively Left Bank atmosphere with the Seine, Notre-Dame, and historic streets nearby.
The Opéra area is a good option for visitors interested in shopping, restaurants, architecture, and convenient transportation.
The most important thing is choosing a location that fits the way you want to experience Paris.
Should You Stay Near the Eiffel Tower?
This is one of the most common questions I hear from first-time visitors.
The Eiffel Tower is an essential part of a first Paris trip for many travelers, but I don't automatically recommend staying nearby.
For many visitors, a more central location can make it easier to experience the Louvre, Île de la Cité, Saint-Germain-des-Prés, the Marais, the Tuileries, and other parts of the city.
You can always visit the Eiffel Tower without making it the center of your hotel location.
My Advice for Your First Paris Hotel
For your first trip, I would prioritize location, walkability, transportation, and room comfort before getting too caught up in amenities.
Think about the places you most want to visit and choose a hotel that makes those plans feel manageable.
Paris is much easier to enjoy when you aren't spending unnecessary time crossing the city.
The right hotel gives you a comfortable place to return to while making the rest of the trip feel simple.
Make Your First Trip to Paris Feel Effortless
Your first Paris trip should feel exciting, not overwhelming.
Choosing the right hotel is one of the easiest ways to make the experience more seamless. A well-located hotel can save time, reduce unnecessary transportation, and give you more opportunities to simply enjoy the city.
If you're planning your first trip to Paris and aren't sure which hotel or neighborhood is right for you, I'm happy to help you narrow down the options based on your itinerary, travel style, and priorities.
