Best Hotels in Paris (and Why They’re Not Near the Eiffel Tower)
If you're searching for the best hotels in Paris, you might assume they should be as close to the Eiffel Tower as possible.
It sounds logical.
After all, the Eiffel Tower is one of the most iconic sights in the world.
But when it comes to choosing a hotel in Paris, closer to the Eiffel Tower doesn't necessarily mean better.
In fact, many of the hotels I love most are located in other parts of the city.
And there’s a good reason for that.
The Eiffel Tower Is a Landmark, Not a Neighborhood
The Eiffel Tower is absolutely worth seeing.
But you don't necessarily want to spend your entire Paris trip right outside it.
Paris is a city of neighborhoods, and each one has its own personality, rhythm, restaurants, cafés, boutiques, and atmosphere.
When choosing where to stay in Paris, we recommend thinking beyond the landmark you most want to see.
Instead, ask yourself:
How do I want Paris to feel when I step outside my hotel?
That question can lead you to a much better hotel choice.
So, Where Are the Best Hotels in Paris?
Some of the best hotels in Paris are found in neighborhoods such as Saint-Germain-des-Prés (6th), the Marais (4th), the 5th arrondissement, the 1st arrondissement, and the 8th arrondissement.
These areas offer something that can be just as valuable as an Eiffel Tower view: a sense of place.
You can step outside your hotel and immediately find yourself surrounded by beautiful architecture, neighborhood cafés, excellent restaurants, shops, galleries, and the everyday rhythm of Paris.
And isn't that part of what you came to experience?
Saint-Germain-des-Prés: Classic Paris
For travelers who dream of a timeless Paris experience, Saint-Germain-des-Prés is hard to resist.
The neighborhood is known for its elegant streets, historic cafés, galleries, boutiques, and beautiful architecture.
It's also wonderfully positioned for exploring the Left Bank and many of Paris's major attractions.
For many travelers, staying here feels less like being a tourist and more like having a temporary Parisian address.
The Marais: Character, Energy, and Charm
The Marais offers a completely different experience.
It's lively, stylish, historic, and full of personality.
You'll find beautiful 17th-century architecture alongside independent boutiques, galleries, cafés, and restaurants.
For travelers who enjoy exploring on foot and discovering something new around every corner, the Marais can be an excellent choice for a Paris hotel.
The 1st Arrondissement: Central and Convenient
If being centrally located is one of your priorities, the 1st arrondissement deserves a look.
You're close to some of Paris's most recognizable sights, including the Louvre and Tuileries Garden.
It's an especially appealing option for travelers who want to maximize their time sightseeing while keeping many destinations within easy reach.
The 8th Arrondissement: Elegant Paris
The 9th arrondissement offers another side of Paris.
Think grand boulevards, elegant hotels, luxury shopping, and iconic landmarks.
It's a natural fit for travelers looking for a more polished, sophisticated atmosphere and convenient access to areas such as the Champs-Élysées.
What About Eiffel Tower Views?
Of course, there is nothing wrong with wanting an Eiffel Tower view.
For some travelers, waking up and seeing the Eiffel Tower from their room is part of the dream.
And if that's important to you, it's absolutely worth considering.
The key is understanding that an Eiffel Tower view is a preference—not necessarily the definition of the best hotel in Paris.
You may be happier with a beautiful boutique hotel in a charming neighborhood than with a hotel that happens to have a view of the tower.
It all comes down to what matters most to you.
The Best Paris Hotel Is the One That Fits Your Trip
This is something I tell my clients often:
There is no single best hotel in Paris.
There is the best hotel for you.
A honeymoon couple may want romance and a beautiful setting.
A family may prioritize space and convenience.
A first-time visitor may want a central location.
A returning traveler may care more about neighborhood character and a quieter experience.
Your hotel should reflect the trip you're actually taking.
How to Choose Your Best Hotel in Paris
Before booking, consider these five questions:
1. What do you want to do in Paris?
Your itinerary can help determine which neighborhoods make the most sense.
2. What kind of atmosphere do you enjoy?
Quiet and residential? Lively and social? Classic and elegant?
3. How important is location?
Think about the places you'll visit most—not just the Eiffel Tower.
4. What matters most in the hotel itself?
Style, room size, service, amenities, views, or something else?
5. How do you want your Paris mornings and evenings to feel?
This may be the most important question of all.
Because your hotel isn't just where you sleep.
It's part of the experience.
The Best Hotels in Paris Are About More Than the View
The Eiffel Tower is one of the reasons we fall in love with Paris.
But it doesn't have to be the reason you choose your hotel.
Some of the most memorable Paris stays happen when you step outside your hotel in the morning, walk to a neighborhood café, wander down a beautiful street, and realize that this is exactly how you wanted Paris to feel.
That's what I look for when helping my clients choose where to stay.
Not simply a famous address.
The right Paris experience.
